One night a man had a dream. He dreamt he was walking along a beach with the Lord. As they walked he saw scenes from his life. Each time he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him and the other to the Lord. When the last scene had faded he looked behind him at the footprints in the sand. He saw that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also saw that it coincided with the very hardest and saddest times in his life. This confused him and he spoke to the Lord: |
"Lord, you promised me that if I followed You, You would be with me wherever I went. But look! At times in my life there is only one set of footprints in the sand. Why did You leave me alone when I most needed You?"
And the Lord replied:
" My precious, precious child. I love you and I would never leave you. During those times when there was only one set of footprints in the sand ~ it was then that I carried you." | |
